Frequent questions (FAQ)

At a glance
Voice technology, why?
Voice technology speeds up warehouse operations and allows operators to be quick and work hands-free, instead of reading paper picking lists or checking information on the display.
Is it difficult to integrate vo—ce into the existing system?
No. vo—ce is an intelligent software that is placed between the server and the frontend.
What changes for the operators?
Nothing. The operators wear a headset and interact immediately with the system.
What happens if there is misunderstanding between the operator and the software?
The operator asks to repeat the last picking instruction; he/she can also consult the mobile computer display to verify if the operation in correct.
What is the investment in hardware per operator?
It’s more or less equal to the cost of the device. If a voice-ready mobile computer is compatible with vo—ce, the only thing to do is to add a vo-ce licence and a professional headset.
What are the advantages of Nuance engines?
Using TTS and ASR engines from Nuance means working with the leader in the market which has a very long history and solid experience. Nuance also guarantees support for special projects. Moreover the platform of the engines is natively multilingual.

Integration
Which operating system does vo-ce run on?
Android 6.0 and higher, Microsoft Windows CE 6.5 and above, WEH 7, Windows 10.
Do you need additional middleware or proprietary WMS?
No. vo—ce is independent from ERP/WMS and servers: no additional middleware, hardware or software. vo—ce integrates with ERP/WMS via VT100/220, 5250, HTTP, RDP and Citrix (only Windows version) and proprietary TCP/IP protocols.
What communication protocol does vo—ce use?
vo—ce can be integrated into any server / client communication protocol and can be used in batch mode. Batch mode is ideal in warehouses with poor wi-fi coverage, in case of slow WMS processing time, because vo—ce communicates directly with the software running in the mobile computer. In TCP/IP communication, vo—ce analyses the data packets from the server to the client, extrapolating those with tags and sending them to the headset; as for the operator's commands, they are all redirected to the keyboard buffer.ì
Does the operator have to tune the recognition engine?
No. vo—ce adapts to every operator, even if they are not a native speaker.
How do you change the vo—ce settings?
vo—ce includes vo—ce Tools, PC software for initial configuration and user interface. The system can be modified on the server side at any time by ISV.
What languages is vo—ce available in?
The languages that have already been tested are Italian, French, English, Dutch, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Brazilian, Polish, Russian and Swedish. Other languages are can be set with Nuance speech engines.
Hardware
Do you need special mobile computers?
No. All you need is voice-ready wi-fi mobile computers with Android OS (6.0 or higher) or Windows (CE 6.5 and higher, WEH 7).
Is it possible to validate other devices?
Of course. We recommend the devices in production, but for the new ones we offer to do a technical validation, leaving the partner the tests management, remaining in support.
In addition to the mobile computer what is needed?
A professional microphone headset with an adjustable microphone with a background noise cancellation function. For convenience we also recommend a belt or shoulder strap holster to keep the mobile computer on.
Is it necessary to review the warehouse wi-fi infrastructure?
No. vo—ce uses only a few bytes.
Do the mobile computer batteries run out quickly?
No, not at all. On the contrary, judging by our experience, the battery time is usually increased. This happens because two of main battery consuming features, display and barcode reader, are used less frequently, even if the mobile computer works in a multimodal way.
