Olicom, the leader of the tobacco distribution sector, has chosen vo-CE by Itworks to optimize the stocking system already patented by the company.
Olicom was founded in 1985 in Brescia, at the same moment when the first PC was created, thanks to the experience acquired in the Olivetti company. Olicom develops and implements hardware and software systems for guided picking that semplify the tobacco handling operations. In 1998 Olicom panented a system, based on pick-to-light technology, for tobacconist’s products distribution, now installed all over Italy.
The idea to put the voice technology beside the normally installed distribution systems that include led viewers and handheld computers, comes from the need to lower the costs of stocking in case of a great quantity of products to be handled. Thanks to the vo-CE integration in the Olicom software, the operator can perform picking or storing tasks with their eyes and hands free, following the voice commands sent by the system.
This new partnership is, thus, a perfect example of how a mix of technologies, traditionally considered as alternative ones, can be a winning choice if applied with attention to the needs of the client and the characteristics of the given market.
